Popped down to Newcastle Uni to see Hope of the States last night.

Fantastic, intense, and uplifting stuff. The band were incredible; passion in every chord, and they have possibly the loveliest frontman in Sam Herlihy. Such a nice chap, he was dedicating songs like there was no tomorrow.

Lots of new songs, which were as good as the crowd favourites - Bonfire and Black Stars, Red Stars in particular.

Support from The Open was solid, and openers The Upper Room weren't bad either, for a 90s Britpop Smiths type band (not as blatant as Gene though...).

Well worth seeing!
