A programme of music, theatre, literature and song in celebration of Gateshead past and present, performed by some of the many talented musicians living in the area, in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church.
These free events are on the third Saturday of each month from 12 noon - 1.00pm and are suitable for all the family.
Saturday July 16th, Tyneside Maritime Chorus
The North East has a vast musical culture, taking in songs and the music which grew from the heavy industries of coal, steel, and shipbuilding.
This concert will draw from this rich seam of song, with sea shanties and salty songs performed by this mixed chorus which was put together by Benny Graham for the 1993 Tall Ships’ Race.
Saturday August 20th, Workshop: Create a ‘Light-catcher’
Using a copper foil technique, with glass artist Gillian McGinley. 10am – 4pm. No experience necessary, but places must be booked and paid for in advance. £8.00

Saturday September 17th, My Life My Style
Gateshead’s newest theatre company for young people, performing their fledgling work, devised with professional artists from Live Theatre Company.
Saturday October 15th, Arts Isiziba
Celebrate Black History Month with this lively performance of African drumming and mbira playing (a thumb piano from Zimbabwe). There will be the chance to experience the instruments hands-on and to taste some of the culinary delights of West Africa including jolloff rice, chicken yassa, and its regional soup.
Saturday November 19th, The Felling Band
Formed over a century ago, this respected and well-established local band now consists of musicians of all ages. Enjoy an uplifting selection of well-known brass band tunes.
Saturday December 17th, The Caprians
This popular choir, with members from around the region will be singing a selection of your favourite Christmas carols to get you in the mood for the festive season.
Enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and acoustics of the beautiful building.
There is always something exciting happening at Gateshead Visitor Centre, including animated history walks, talks and workshops.
